A research fellowship is available in the Neuroimmunology Unit, led by Prof. Gianvito Martino, Division of Neuroscience, Ospedale San Raffaele, Milan Italy. We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to join a team working on Multiple Sclerosis, the second cause of neurological disability in European young adults, which is characterized by disruption of myelin and axonal damage.
The project aims at testing already registered drugs for repurposing as new neuroprotective/remyelinating agents for progressive MS, a form of the disease associated to continuous accumulation of neurological deficit. Our platform of human cells consist of neurons and oligodendrocyte precursors differentiated from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) obtained from MS patients and healthy subjects, providing the unprecedented chance to compare diseased and healthy cells and to identify novel targets and molecular pathways. The project “Drug repurposing as a novel strategy to discover pro-regenerative therapies for neurological diseases: the challenge of progressive multiple sclerosis”, is funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR Bando PRIN).
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated PhD scientist who wishes to advance in his/her academic training and consolidate his/her research experience in neuroscience. A strong background in cellular and molecular biology and experience with stem cell technologies (i.e. iPSC) are required.
The position will be funded for one year and renewable up to 3 years; salary will be determined according to the candidate experience.
Please send your application including a summary of research interest, Curriculum vitae, and the name and contact details of at least one referee who can best comment on your prior research experience, to: panina.paola@hsr.it
