POST DOCTORAL RESEARCHER - BIOINFORMATICS: Establishment of a bioinformatics platform for for tumor organoid based precision cancer medicine
The laboratory is looking for a bioinformatician to cover an open position for a post-doctoral scientific researcher. A candidate should have a profound background in the analysis and interpretation of NGS and gene expression data.
The candidate will join the group of Stefan Schoeftner at the Laboratorio Nazionale CIB, a research institute focusing on basic and translational cancer research, located in the AREA Science Park in Trieste, Italy
The open position for the postdoctoral researcher is part of a collaborative project (PreCanMed) that focuses on the establishment of patient derived precision cancer model systems. In this project, partners from the Laboratorio Nazionale CIB, the University of Trieste, University of Udine, the Austrian Drug Screening Institute (ADSI) and the Comprehensive Cancer Center Innsbruck (CCCi) will establish a life biobank and database comprising characterized cancer patient derived tumor organoids. Tumor organoids are patient-derived 3D tumor cells structures that closely resemble the original patient tumor. Tumor organoids can be cultured in vitro and thus are expected to hold a big promise for future, patient tailored, precision cancer therapies.
A successful candidate will be responsible for the set up of the bioinformatics pipeline of the PreCanMed project that comprises i) the analysis of exome seqeuncing and gene expression data from established tuomor-organoids, ii) the integration of clinical information, iii) data integration for functional analysis and iv) interpretation of data using bioinformatics tools to work towards the identification of patient specific drug-able hubs, and v) the establishment of a database that connects bioinformatics data with the life tumor organoid biobank. The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent experience in bioinformatics; good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are also essential. A recruited postdoc will perform experimental work in close collaboration with other PreCanMed project partners, including short working periods in project partner institutes.
