Postdoctoral Fellow Position “Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) Redox Sensor Proteins of the Mitochondria-Associated Membrane (MAM)” University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
One postdoctoral fellow position is available for a September 2015 start date to study how redox-sensitive proteins of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) regulate calcium flux between the ER and mitochondria at the mitochondria-associated membrane (MAM). The project will consist of two independent approaches and will investigate the following questions: i. Which redox-sensitive, ER-localized oxidoreductases influence MAM-localized calcium signaling. ii. How do these proteins execute this function, i.e., which proteins are required for their localization. The project will use human and yeast cell culture model systems and will translate its findings into an animal model, following up on our previous publications. The location of the research project is at the University of Alberta, the 5th largest University in Canada with world-class biomedical research labs. Edmonton is a
culturally vibrant, young city that lies in close proximity to the Rocky Mountains, offering excellent opportunities for sports enthusiasts.
