In 2015 the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB), in collaboration with Gibco, is awarding three cash prizes ($5,000 each) to honor emerging leaders in science. The top 10 finalists will be recognized at a plenary session of the ASCB Annual Meeting in San Diego, December 12-16. All 10 finalists will also be invited to a special event with senior leaders relevant to their careers at the Annual Meeting. The deadline to apply is July 31, 2015.

These prizes are part of a partnership between ASCB and Gibco to support excellence in science. Both ASCB and Gibco recognize the challenging times that up-and-coming leaders in scientific research face. ASCB and Gibco are both determined to do everything possible to raise the visibility of our most promising young scientists.

Successful applicants must have outstanding scientific accomplishments with a strong publication track record, which will not be evaluated based on the Impact Factor of the journals where results are published, rather solely on the significance of their discoveries and the contribution to the field of cell biology and basic biomedical research, in general. Applicants will typically be non-tenured independent investigators, who have made significant contributions demonstrating influence inside and outside of their core field. Eligible scientists include tenure-track but not yet tenured faculty as well as staff scientists with independent research programs (one possible indication being published as a senior author). Both U.S. and international scientists are welcome to apply. Applicants must be ASCB regular members. Not a member? Not a problem! Join now. Finalists are expected to register for and attend the 2015 ASCB Annual Meeting. A limited number of travel awards may be available but are not guaranteed.

A selection committee of renowned experts will evaluate based on the significance and originality of scientific achievements in the broadly defined field of cell biology and basic biological sciences.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to articulate clearly and succinctly, in two pages or less, their key scientific results, what research they are most proud of, and why those results could have not been achieved without their specific contribution. Then upload the essay and CV in one combined PDF on the application site. Those who are selected as finalists will be asked for a recommendation letter in mid-August.

Graduate students and postdocs should apply for the Kaluza PrizesBernfield Award, and/or Gilula Award.
